MARINA FOKIDIS & ADNAN YILDIZ

13. Istanbul Biennial hosts Athens based curator Marina Fokidis aiming to bridge two historical cities of crisis and control; Istanbul and Athens in accordance with the contextual gap between them, at a round table discussion. Fokidis will present her recent projects such as Kunsthalle Athens KUNSTHALLE ATHENA and South magazine in relation to the socio-political climate and economical conditions in Greece, and Misal Adnan Yıldız will moderate the session with invited respondents.

Marina Fokidis is a curator and writer based in Athens, Greece. Amongst other projects she is the founding and artistic director of the newly established Kunsthalle Athena, and the founding and editorial director of the international magazine South as a State of Mind. Fokidis was co-curator of the Third Thessaloniki Biennial (2011), and she  been the commissioner and the curator of the Greek Pavillion at the 51rst Venice Biennial, (2003) and one of the curators of the 1rst Tirana Biennial (2001). She was also the project manager and curator of special projects of Monument to Now exhibition of Dakis Joannou Collection (2004, Deste Athens). Fokidis has curated several exhibitions, including  Midsummer Nights Dream, a three months screening program part of Remap 2 (parallel program to Athens Biennial 2009), Her(His)tory an exhibition of major video works within the last decade, juxtaposed to the historical permanent collections, in the Museum of Cycladic Art, (parallel program to Athens Biennial 2007), Anathena, an exhibition held in DESTE Foundation, based in the Athenian underground scene (2006) and others. She has written essays for different edited collections, f  and several international art magazines like Frieze Magazine, Flash Art, Art and Australia, Mousse Magazine, as well as for several  greek newspapers.  She has been the selecting committee and international jury  for several artists awards including Furla Prize, (2013) DESTE prize, Athens and Akyeri prize in Iceland,and Future Generation Prize. She has been giving numerous interviews about the art scene of Greece in international publications , including ,most recently  NY times, Herald Tribune, Monopole, and ART INFo co-opted. She is a member of AICA since 2001.

Misal Adnan Yıldız is the artistis director of Künstlerhas Stuttgart since 2011.
